Sample Images

On this page, you'll find images taken using the JAI CV-M50IR either directly or guided by the VideoStar system.

Keep in mind that none of the JAI deep sky pictures use exposures longer than 30 seconds, however because video is used for acquisition, many images can be acquired and stacked far more quickly than a conventional, slow scan CCD.

Technical details:
Telescope: Celestron C-14. Collimation just adjusted at very high power. Barlowed 2.5x with Televue

Camera: JAI MV50-IR video camera. Video board: Integral Technologies Flashpoint MV-Pro
Exposure: 75 exposures, two video frames (1/15 second) exposure.
Processing: Zoom 2x, Alignment, summation, deconvolution, unsharp masking, deinterlacing, contrast stretching...

Technical details:

Telescope: C-14
Camera: JAI CV-M50IR
Exposure: 60 exposures, 30 seconds each. No guiding.
Processing: Dark subtraction

Technical details:

Telescope: C-14
Camera: JAI CV-M50IR
Exposure: 31 exposures, 30 seconds each. No guiding.
Processing: Dark subtraction, Maximum entropy deconvolution

Technical details:

Telescope: AP130EDT
Imaging camera: Finger Lakes Dream Machine. Guiding Camera: JAI CV-M50IR
Exposure: 1 exposure, 10 minutes. Guided using C102 widefield with JAI camera
Processing: Dark subtraction.

This was a first light test of the autoguider. As you can see, the non-anti-blooming chip of the Dream Machine suffers considerably from all the bright stars in this field of view.

Technical details:

Telescope: AP130EDT
Imaging camera: Finger Lakes Dream Machine. Guiding Camera: JAI CV-M50IR
Exposure: 2 exposure, 10 minutes, rotated 90 degrees and combined using a Minimum value.
Guided using C102 widefield with JAI camera
Processing: Dark subtraction.

This was a first light test of the autoguider. Ron Wodaski suggested using the min value operation for eliminating blooming. As you can see, it works very nicely!
